Beware the Ides of March ... and a New Book: WRECK

 Hello, Friends.

Yes, it's beware the Ides of March. And there's another D.A. Boulter book up on Amazon. "Wreck."

Anyone who has followed the sporadic musings on this blog will remember -- 'cause anyone who follows this blog has an amazing memory -- that back in 2017, I mentioned that I had begun work on something that I'd had on my mind for a couple of years -- a story that I tentatively titled, "Wreck". I wrote about 10k in it over that year and the next while concentrating on other works -- mostly in the "Yrden Universe".

In November (2021) I finally decided that "Wreck's" time had come. I threw away what I had written thus far, threw away the beginnings of an outline that I had begun way back when, and started anew. By the fifth of December, I had completed the first draft. I often seem to write like that -- it's boom or bust (haven't written anything since). But the final proofing of "Wreck" got completed last week and I did a final read-through. Undoubtedly, I missed some mistakes, but for better or for worse, I hit the "publish" button.

"Wreck" is now available on Amazon -- and will be available in Kindle Unlimited for the next three months.

"Wreck" is a stand-alone novel.

Wreck

Some dreams die a natural, lonely death ... others get ripped away from the dreamer, torn and bloody.

Ricardo Sandoval, captain of an obsolete asteroid-mining ship, now reduced to merely prospecting for large mining conglomerates, still dreams of striking it rich and returning to his home planet a success, and rubbing that success in the faces of those who doubted him.

While fighting to hold onto that dream, he makes first contact with an alien intelligence -- an AI in charge of a badly damaged alien ship. The AI needs his help so the wreck can complete its mission; he needs the wreck for the fame and fortune it will bring him if he takes it home.

Only one of the two can see their dream come true, for time will not permit both to succeed -- and the stakes make it a life-or-death matter for both.

It was, in some ways, a difficult novel to write as I often get too involved in my characters and -- as in most books -- things don't always go well for them. My Captain Sandoval is no exception and I fear I treated him rather poorly.

I felt some relief in getting away from the Yrden Universe for a while -- and I have two other books in progress that aren't in that universe either, both of which are fairly advanced. Not sure whether to go to them or to get the next Yrden book done -- which I haven't started yet, except in my mind.

It has been a tough few years, and current events aren't making them any better. I thank those of you who have read my books and in turn kept me writing. If it weren't for you, for me knowing that you were waiting for the next one, I might have given up. Sales are definitely not near what they used to be. Hard times are hard times.

Hopefully, we will see things return to a closer to "normal" state.

Take care of yourselves and,

Live the Joy.
